I’ve started a dissertation webtext. Whereas the Ungrading blog is the place where I toss around every academic idea I’m working with, the webtext is the actual dissertation-in-progress in electronic format. It’s still technically a blog with 20 posts and a commenting function, but the presence of the CommentPress system enables me to create a linear text while still enjoying the benefits of paragraph, section and whole-text comments.

In short, you’ll see more writing here, but it’ll be better sorted and organized there.

So check it out! My proposal (already approved) will appear there in a few hours, followed by dissertation pieces and a bibliography. While I’m working, I’ll also be writing a short piece on the experience of dissertating with CommentPress (see section 19 of the webtext).

Mike– OMG!!! This is a wonderful site. You have mentioned your diss blog before, but I had no idea you meant something so massively cool. Damn. Damn. Damn. I suddenly see so many uses for something (a blog space) like this. I can’t wait to see you upload some text so I (or anyone else) can comment . . . and see that drafting / revising process you’ll go through. My second thought (after thinking about how cool this is for you) is how this type of writing space can be applied to a classroom or to any other type of large writing project (collaborative writing?) . . . almost like a wiki but more formal? (maybe?).

So so so so so cool.

Heh. Thanks. I’ve got a bunch of stuff that has been posted, but not “published.” That’ll happen when I officially launch someday soon.

I’d like to give some thought to classroom applications; I’ll probably hold off, though, until the next version of CommentPress. There are a few limitations with the current version. You’re right though: there’s a lot of potention.
