Today is my 36th birthday and my first official day of blogging here, though I’ve posted a few links prior to this. My name is Mike Garcia, and I teach and direct composition at Augusta State University, a regional campus of about 6500 in Georgia. We’ve been in the news recently due to the recent decision to consolidate with Georgia Health Sciences University; this is such a recent development that all of us are still trying to wrap our heads around it.

Now, I direct composition (and do a lot of other stuff) on a 3-3 teaching load, so I’m plenty busy; with the consolidation, I’m likely to get even busier. After a year and a half at ASU, I’ve discovered that I can easily have a full-time job without any scholarly reading and writing. If I want to write, that’s extra time. So it goes. I just need to squeeze it in, to get into a routine where I write on a daily basis, so this is where I’ll do a lot of that writing.

I’m not new to blogging, or academic blogging, but it’s been about four years since I’ve done so consistently. Most of the other bloggers I’ve known over the years have given it up since then as well. So, this should be interesting. How long can I keep this up?
